If you know of an organization you would like to have considered as a Mission Opportunity,
please contact Ruth Benson.
BULLDOG BUDDY A Bulldog Buddy is a caring adult volunteer who has been matched with a student at one of the Carl Junction elementary schools. The student has been identified as needing positive recognition and the benefits of individual adult attention. The Bulldog Buddy Program gives adults a chance to make a difference in Carl Junction's future by getting to know the children of our community. The Bulldog Buddy Program also brings another caring person into the life of a child and offers children the opportunity to have adult friends. Our
church has adopted the 6th grade and you have the opportunity to be a Bulldog Buddy to a student who really needs you.
We have the information on this in the lobby of the church. Take one of them and fill out the application and bring
it back and we will take all we get to the sixth grade and let them assign you a student to whom you can be a Bulldog
Buddy! ![]() Sixth Grade Lunch Buddies Needed We received a request from the 6th grade class for 15 lunch buddies for some of the students. This would consist of going once a week, once a month or as often as you would like to have lunch with one of the students who has been selected to need some one-on-one time with an adult. You could make a very positive impact on the life of a sixth grader. We have made a commitment to the sixth grade class to be there for them as needed. This is a very real need. If you would do this, please contact Pastor Jim so we can get you set up with a lunch buddy as soon as possible. Thanks for everyone's cooperation.
Backpack Program Our church is working with the Carl Junction School District in the Backpack Program. This program sends "backpacks" full of food home with children in need on weekends and school breaks. The items needed are non-perishable food items that are ready to eat or can be fixed easily and quickly, for example: EasyMac Ramen Beef Jerky Granola Bars Raisins Peanut Butter Crackers Cheese Crackers Pudding Instant Oatmeal. We have space in the food pantry
to keep the food and it will be picked up by school staff, or Sherri Petry will also take monetary donations and make certain they get to the right people to fill backpacks.
This is a continuing program and a way we can make a difference in our community and show our love for these children through
Christ. The Freedom Dream Center is a ministry in Aurora, Missouri, that works with the chemically dependent. They are an awesome group of people and have a wonderful ministry. On November 13, 2011, we had a Freedom Dream Center team leading our Worship Service. Several individuals shared their testimonies about how the Dream Center has helped and is helping them overcome their dependency. I know your hearts were touched by these testimonies. The Dream Center accepts anyone who needs help even if
they can't pay for that help. Their program is dependent a lot upon donations of food for their residents, such as staple
items like sugar, coffee, eggs, bread, biscuit mix, ramen noodles, potatoes, coffee creamer, tea, ketchup, fruit, cake mix
& icing, cheese, pancake mix, canned soup, hamburger helper, pop tarts, cereal, kool-aid; or anything but meat, which
they have. Or you may contribute money to help them buy other things they may need. Please contact Pastor Jim if you wish to help with this ministry.
On March 13, 2011, our Church was blessed to have Missionaries to Nicaragua Ken, Sherry and Isaac Whiteside at our Worship Service. Following is their letter to us and Ken's Prayer/Poem he shared with us during the Worship Service that touched our hearts! Letter
to Pastor Jim from MISSIONARIES KEN AND SHERRY WHITESIDE Blessed For A
Reason “A Prayer” Rapha House Following the presentation made by Katie Gage from Rapha House to our congregation on
Sunday, December 5, 2010, we can support Rapha House by doing the following: PRAY using the following Weekly Points for Prayer (from RaphaHouse.org):
COMMIT to giving on a monthly basis, if possible. Any amount you give goes directly to supporting the girls in the programs. The average cost for one girl to be at a Rapha House is $150 per month. VISIT the Rapha House gallery located at 118 South Main Street in Joplin. Rapha House has set up an educational gallery where people can come and learn more about Rapha House, slavery around the world, and what can be done to bring slavery to an end. At the gallery, there is the opportunity to PURCHASE some of the handmade items the girls have created as a part of their vocational training, as well as a prayer walk where people are encouraged to meditate and intercede on behalf of people around the world still trapped in slavery. The gallery is open Monday - Friday 10:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m. Visitors are encouraged to stop in anytime during those hours, or by appointment at another time, and take the chance to familiarize themselves with Rapha House and learn more about issues around the globe. For more information call (417) 621-0373, or email freedom@raphahouse.org.
